The Nucha Hotel project brings a contemporary lens to hospitality on Jerusalem’s Ben Sira Street, where modern minimalist luxury takes center stage. Studio ara’s vision was to conceptualise and craft interiors that honour the city’s heritage while introducing an understated yet modern elegance.
Located in Jerusalem’s storied center, Nucha Hotel presented a unique challenge: to create interiors that reflect the city’s character while appealing to a modern, mid-century sensibility. The brief asked for an elegant and refined aesthetic that would echo the city’s legacy of stone and light, while ensuring spaces such as the lobby, bar, guestrooms, and restaurant delivered international standards of comfort and sophistication.
Drawing inspiration from Jerusalem’s timeless stone facades, the design employs classic patterns, muted color palettes, and mixed materials to evoke understated grandeur. Signature elements such as Jerusalem stone wall panelling, terrazzo with brass inlays, and fluted glass details provide tactility and depth. Furniture, lighting, and rugs with geometric motifs lend a modern interpretation to classic forms, bridging tradition with contemporary style.
A central design narrative revolves around the integration of local artefacts and emphasis on craftsmanship. Be it shelving that showcases curated objects, or feature chandeliers echoing Middle Eastern ornamentation, each space embeds cultural memory within a modern framework. This fusion creates interiors that feel authentically Jerusalem, in reverence to place, yet attuned to global design sensibilities.
The final result is a boutique hotel that speaks in the language of contemporary elegance. Sophisticated yet inviting, globally refined yet rooted in local character. Each space, from the poolside lounges to the guestrooms, celebrates minimalist luxury while offering moments of calm, repose, and understated glamour. By weaving heritage into a modern design vocabulary, Hotel Nucha becomes both a destination and a reflection of Jerusalem’s enduring spirit.
