Perched in the mystical hills of Safed, the Banyan Tree Spa embodies a dialogue between global wellness and local spirit. Here, Banyan Tree’s signature philosophy of harmony with nature finds new expression through the textures, crafts, and unparalleled charm of this ancient city.
Studio ara was tasked with designing a spa that blends Banyan Tree’s global signature of wellness with the soul of Safed, a city steeped in mysticism and stone-carved history. The challenge was to create a wholesome experience, one that feels universal in luxury yet rooted in the textures, spirit, and natural rhythms of northern Israel.
The spa is envisioned as a sanctuary where nature moves seamlessly into design. A tree rises at the heart of the space, a living symbol of renewal. Printed tiles underfoot add a touch of heritage, grounding the interiors in Safed’s cultural story. Cane partitions gently divide massage pods, while woven rattan and jute wall hangings echo artisanal traditions. Lush greenery softens the architecture, while natural light filters through, creating moments of pause and reflection.
The seamless integration of landscape and design defines the spa. Printed tiles nod to Levantine pattern traditions, and handcrafted wall hangings bring an artisanal softness to stone and water. The pond with its rising tree anchors the entire journey, offering guests a moment of awe and serenity before or after treatments. The integration of greenery blurs boundaries between indoors and out, ensuring every corner breathes.
The spa becomes a living sanctuary: immersive, textural, and rooted. Guests experience wellness not only through treatments but through the atmosphere itself, artfully crafted by studio ara. An alchemy of Banyan Tree’s refined philosophy with the organic, spiritual cadence of Safed.
