Padma Semarang reimagines the urban resort as a dialogue between heritage and modernity.
Perched on the sacred shores of the Red Sea, Kempinski Hotel Yanbu offers a redefined vision of luxury, one that balances heritage with urban sophistication. Studio Ara was entrusted with transforming the 191-room resort, crafting a design narrative that interlaces organic forms, contemporary elegance, and a sense of place.
The task was to transform an existing luxury resort into a destination that felt refreshed, distinct, and resonant with its unique position by the Red Sea. Beyond 191 guest rooms, the redesign extended to public areas, restaurants, and suites, requiring a cohesive narrative that could marry function with elevated aesthetics. The brief demanded a look that was globally relevant yet unmistakably rooted in Yanbu’s heritage and landscape.
The design draws inspiration from the magnificent Red Sea itself: its organic life, shifting tones, and natural vibrancy. Studio ara translated this into interiors that are bright, airy, and full of movement. Neutral palettes are enlivened with coral tones, sandy beiges, and deep reef blues, while textures reminiscent of reefs, seashells, and marine flora add tactile richness. Brass detailing and glamorous touches capture a refreshing spirit, and contemporary forms ensure the spaces remain forward-looking and timeless.
A focal point of the transformation was the All-Day Dining restaurant. Defined by arched screens, an engaging show kitchen, and a central water feature, the space balances openness with intimacy. Elsewhere, the Royal Suite embodies contemporary glam, with layered textures, luxurious materials, and a palette designed to elevate both comfort and indulgence.
The transformation culminates in a resort that speaks to Yanbu’s spirit while elevating the Kempinski legacy. Public areas are framed with geometric motifs and locally inspired textures, while guestrooms feature a refined palette that mirrors the Red Sea’s shifting blues and sandy tones. The design strikes a balance. Sophisticated yet welcoming, cosmopolitan in its polish yet connected to its roots. Through organic forms, layered materials, and glamorous accents, studio ara has set a new standard for luxury hospitality on the Red Sea coastline.
